My name is Don Rogers and I am the President the Alberta Woodsball League (A.W.L.). We are based out of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. This is our fourth year in operation, offering quality, competitive Paintball events not only for players from Rocky Mountain House, but surrounding communities as well.
We started play testing in 2004, and in 2005 we began to set up some rules. A few hundred thousand rounds later we had the basics of what was needed to make a workable woodsball rating system. We had 6 teams enter for the season in 2006, with 73 players, and finalized the rules. The rules have changed and grown since then and so has the League.
In 2008 we began working with Shaun Langille of the Atlantic Woodsball League to form the Canadian Woodsball Championships. The CWC's has the best teams that each participating Province has to offer compete for the right to say they are the Canadian Woodsball Champions.
The Alberta Woodsball League is a NON PROFFIT sporting event.100% of money raised from entrance fees and paint sales are used for purchasing prizes and paying for event costs such as referees, safety equipment for refs, advertising/posting League scores, and the Award Ceremonies and trips to the Canadian Woodsball Championships.
What we do:
The Alberta Woodsball League tries to promote the safe, responsible use of paintball equipment in a competitive environment. We try to work to promote the sport of "Woodsball" and get some recognition for some of the sports Teams. To do this we co-ordinate with Paintball Fields that have "Woodsball" facilities and want to be Host locations for our League Divisions, and help promote them.
We also seek sponsors that will help provide items or services related to the sport of Woodsball and
make event participants aware of the products of our sponsors. Teams that are registered have their sponsors listed as well. We feel that it is important to make people aware of the community minded organizations and businesses who support emerging Amateur Sports and its participants.
About the League:
The Alberta Woodsball League gives Participants the chance to play competitive "Woodsball" style games for ratings and prizes. It gives people a chance to meet other paintball players from the surrounding areas as well as gives them the chance to meet players from other areas of the province.
The A.W.L. is all about providing quality gaming events at a reasonable cost to the Participants.
Lets take a look at the cost breakdown for Team to enter for a Season:
